LIFT is a three year programme across Camden, Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets that aims to help residents into good local jobs in the knowledge economy including tech, digital, sciences, and creative production, and to support businesses and start-ups in these sectors.
Our vision is to inspire and empower our local communities and build a lifetime of opportunities for our residents and generations to come.
What are we doing?
Building a gateway into our local knowledge economy
The knowledge economy is fueled by ideas, research, and technological change, with businesses that are highly innovative and often begin as small start-ups.
Throughout this programme we will deliver workshops and training courses to give local people the knowledge, skills and expertise they need to find a job or start their own business.
Courses
We offer an eight-week course that provides first-hand knowledge of the start-up ecosystem (people, organisations and other similar start-ups) and prepares them for employment in the tech sector. This is achieved through workshops and mentoring with the OneTech network delivered in three stages:
- Stage 1: workshops that explore various possibilities that a career in a start-up offers, along with practical tools of the trade that can be used for project management, marketing and validation of ideas.
- Stage 2: introduces students to start-ups and develops soft skills through real-life projects set by businesses.
- Stage 3: focuses on interview training, job hunting workshops and CV writing support.
Participants are offered follow-on support, including access to internship opportunities created through our network of tech and digitally enabled start-ups.
Community engagement
Inspire and develop the talent of underrepresented residents, especially women and Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Employment and business support
Support local businesses to diversify their pipeline of talent and open up opportunities for local people.
