One-to-one Mentoring for Young Men - ABandofBrothers
Uploaded by ABandofBrothers

Background

abandofbrothers (ABOB) works with young men involved in the criminal justice system. We provide them with the support they need to make the transition to an adulthood free of crime, and filled with a sense of belonging, connection and purpose.

The young men we meet have often experienced or witnessed domestic violence. They may have been abused or else kept someone else’s abuse a secret. They may have lived in care or experienced neglect. They may have grown up where drug and alcohol abuse is commonplace and where positive adult role models are in short supply.

Our work transforms the lives of young men and their communities, creating well-rounded men who contribute back to society with healthy aspirations and a renewed sense of wellbeing.

abandofbrothers achieves this success by bringing young men and adult role models together for an intensive rite-of-passage program coupled with an accredited mentoring curriculum. This immersive journey both challenges and encourages the young men’s growth, whilst providing them with the foundation of a lasting community and a wider network of support.

Ten Week Mentoring Program

This opportunity is for young men to receive ten weeks of mentoring support with an abandofbrothers experienced mentor focussing on the issues they are facing in their lives, their aspirations and taking practical next steps. Many of our mentors have experience of the criminal justice system themselves and we approach each young man without judgement or assumption. The program consists of ten one-to-one mentoring sessions conducted either face-to-face or online, depending on the young man's preference and addresses issues such as relationships, family, employment, money, mental health and addiction.

After the Mentoring Program

Once young men have completed the ten week mentoring program, they can choose to join with other young men and adult role models to experience an intensive rite-of-passage weekend to provide them with the skills required to transition to an adulthood free of crime, and filled with a sense of belonging, connection and purpose. They can also choose to continue the mentoring program, diving a little deeper into the issues they are facing.

If you think you might benefit from mentoring from an older man who wants to see you succeed, or you know someone who might, please get in touch with us at london@abandofbrothers.org.uk and we would be happy to discuss a bit more about what we do and how we might be able to help.
