What is Multitudes?

Multitudes is an electrifying new festival at Southbank Centre, bringing together young people, communities, and world-leading creatives for a unique blend of music, performance, and cultural experiences. The festival features everything from jaw-dropping acrobatics and immersive theatre to poetry, grime, electronic, and hip-hop performances.

This is an opportunity for young people to experience live performances, engage with interactive workshops, and explore thought-provoking art and music.


Festival Highlights:

Daphnis and Chloé (Wed 23 Apr)
A modern retelling of a classic Greek tale, combining contemporary circus by Circa with orchestral music from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Oh to Believe in Another World (Thu 24 Apr)
Experience William Kentridge’s dreamlike animation with Shostakovich’s Symphony No.10, exploring Soviet history through art and music.

Vexations (Thu 24 Apr)
Witness a marathon performance of Erik Satie’s Vexations, directed by Marina Abramović with pianist Igor Levit. This endurance feat is designed as an immersive, drop-in experience.

R.I.S.E. (Fri 25 Apr)
An inspiring performance combining poetry and social commentary by George the Poet, alongside the Chineke! Orchestra, Europe’s first majority Black and ethnically diverse orchestra.

Singing All About Love (Sat 26 Apr)
Experience The Multi-Story Orchestra performing at Mickalene Thomas’ All About Love exhibition. This exhibition reclaims space for Black women in art history, drawing inspiration from bell hooks.

Legacy (Mon 28 Apr)
Discover Birmingham’s grime and hip-hop scene with performances by Lady Leshurr, Jaykae, and more, in collaboration with Punch Records and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

In C (Tue 29 & Wed 30 Apr)
A dynamic performance blending dance, music, and space, featuring Sasha Waltz & Guests and the London Sinfonietta.

City of Floating Sounds (Wed 30 Apr)
An interactive musical experience where participants explore London’s streets with a bespoke app, culminating in a live orchestral performance at Royal Festival Hall.

Carnival & Carnival: Family Edit (Sat 3 May)
A reimagined Carnival of the Animals by Aurora Orchestra and Frantic Assembly, perfect for families and young audiences.
