North London Garages Group Training Association

North London Garages Group Training Association has provided training for people aged 16 years and over wishing to enter the UK Motor Industry as motor mechanics for over 50 years.

NLGGTA currently offer two types of Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships:

  • Level 2 Autocare Technician Standard
  • Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Standard
  • Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Standard (Starting Summer 2021)

Apprenticeship standards are employer-led, meaning that employers can specify exactly what's required from an apprentice in each specific role. Employer groups developing these standards are known as ‘trailblazers’. The NLGGTA Automotive Apprenticeship involves technical study at college one day each week and in addition Functional skills, English and maths is also delivered.

Apprentices learn on the job; the standards outline the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) required to carry out a certain job role. All apprentices must take an independent assessment at the end of their training to demonstrate the KSBs set out in the occupational standard have been competently achieved.
