Somali Youth Helpline (SYH)

Here at Somali Youth Helpline we offer a great variety of activities and services;

  • Helpline counselling and face-to-face counselling sessions offered in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Job Skills training - Getting people of all ages into work directly by sponsoring or facilitating their training for PCV and LGV licences and SIA classes, apprenticeship awareness scheme for young people, Health and Social Care and Teacher Assistant courses and basically helping single mothers to find jobs.
  • Mentoring – Somali youth are supported in an engaging way suitable for their age and position in life
  • Tuition - A variety of tuition classes for children aged six to twelve
  • Healthy eating classes - An educational and fun activity for families, where parents and kids can try out new foods and take booklets full of recipes afterwards
  • Drop-in support sessions - Sessions where anyone can drop by for any help from translation support/form filling, phone calls made on their behalf to dealing with international agencies such as immigration bodies/human rights support, as well as accompanying vulnerable members of the community to doctor’s surgeries and hospitals.
  • Art Therapy classes - An activity for young children that has proven to be very useful and popular. It trains energetic children in silent sitting, listening/ concentrating skills and confidence building which helps them to improve their performance at school notably.
  • Trips - We take young people on trips to places of interest such as the beach (West Wittering Beach in Sussex, Paintballing in London, Museums and Theme Parks).

SYH offers a Resource Centre that Somalis call their own and feel free to seek a tailor made support service made in an environment that they could relate to in terms language, culture and religion. Somali Youth Helpline management is proud to have played a major role in this regard.
